1. Daily SPF
Rain or shine, sunscreen is vital. We’re reminding you (and ourselves!) to apply SPF every single day to avoid UV damage and the subsequent skin concerns that arise as a result. Wearing sunscreen will prevent fine lines and winkles, loss of collagen, hyperpigmentation, and a host of other avoidable problems.
Made with Centella Asiatica extract, Lotus Flower water and Damask Rose water, the VT Cica Essence Sun SPF50+ PA++++ has an instantly cooling sensation when applied to the skin. It keeps the skin moist and protected, while soothing redness and irritation. For intense skin-quenching, the COSRX - Aloe Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA+++ - 50ml applies and hydrates like a moisturizer, thanks to its Aloe-rich formula. If liquid SPFs aren’t your thing, try the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Airy Sun Stick SPF50+ PA++++ to enjoy the benefits of 8 types of Hyaluronic Acid and easy-peasy application.
2. Better and more thorough cleansing
Cleansing is the first step of the routine and sets a precedent for the following steps. At this stage it’s important to rid the skin of dirt, debris, and makeup, so that your skincare isn’t blocked from penetrating the skin. Oil cleansers work great for this purpose and make up the first half of the double cleansing method which uses both oil-based and water-based cleansers for thorough skin cleansing.
The Haruharu WONDER Black Rice Moisture Deep Cleansing Oil only includes 9 necessary ingredients for effective, non-irritating daily cleansing. It leaves the skin moisturized and nourished, rather than stripped and dry. Take your oil cleanse up a zesty notch with the heimish - All Clean Balm (Mandarin) - 120ml, a cleansing balm that melts away makeup and impurities. This formula is super gentle and won’t irritate the eyes when washing off the most waterproof of cosmetics. Soybean and Ginseng Seed oils prove to be a match made in heaven in the BEAUTY OF JOSEON Ginseng Cleansing Oil. It touts a micellar cleansing technology to wash away residue while keeping the skin sufficiently hydrated.
3. Patting skin dry instead of rubbing
We tend to rub our faces dry with a towel after cleansing, but this action actually has adverse effects on the skin. Rubbing creates friction that can irritate the skin, triggering sensitivity and inflammation. Instead, pat the skin dry to gently soak up water post-cleanse. As a bonus, a lot of skincare products work more effectively on damp skin; you can try ditching the towel when patting to prepare the skin for the rest of the routine.
4. Don't pop pimples
As tempting as it is to pop a pimple on the spot, halt! Treating blemishes incorrectly can result in pain and redness, first and foremost, as well as longer term skin concerns like acne scarring, pits, or hyperpigmentation. Curb this impulsive habit by turning to safe and effective treatments, such as creams, oils, or patches. As instantaneously satisfying popping a blemish is, the lasting damage isn’t worth the trouble.
Treat blemishes while protecting them from external aggressors with the SWANICOCO A.C Control Clear Swan Patch. These hydrocolloid patches suck out the fluid of the pimple, in addition to soothing irritation and redness. The COMMONLABS Vitamin E Micro Needle Spot Cream injects skin with harmless, pain-free micro needles that open a pathway and soothe acne with 54% Tea Tree leaf extract. Its formula also includes Vitamin E and traditional Eastern medicinal ingredients to strengthen the skin surrounding the blemish. Addressing the acne issue from the core, the SOME BY MI 30 Days Miracle Tea Tree Clear Spot Oil harnesses the power of Tea Tree Leaf oil and water to combat excess sebum that gives way to breakouts. Panthenol and Allantoin leave the skin feeling moisturized and refreshed.
5. Find a go-to exfoliator
Skin cells naturally turn over every 28 days but when the skin is appearing dull or congested, it needs an extra helping hand. Exfoliation gets rid of dead skin cells and sebum buildup to reveal a brighter complexion, allow products to penetrate the skin more effectively, and prevent acne breakouts. Depending on your skin type and frequency of exfoliation, there are different types of exfoliators out there to suit your needs.
Polished skin is a few swipes away with the Farm Stay Collagen Water Full Moist Peeling Gel. Hydrolyzed Collagen extract maintains a moist and smooth complexion as the peeling gel washes away buildup, excess sebum, and blackheads. The Isntree Chestnut BHA 2% Clear Liquid prevents skin from drying out with Sodium Hyaluronate and Hyaluronic Acid, at the same time tightening pores and restoring oil-water balance with Chestnut-derived Tannin. An exfoliator that also acts as a face mask? Killing two birds with one stone is the I’m From Fig Scrub Mask that combines Fig powder and Black Sugar to dissolve dead skin cells and remove impurities.
6. Don't forget about bodycare
When your mind is fixated on perfecting facial skincare, it’s easy to forget about bodycare. In 2023 we’re resolving to pay closer attention to the rest of the body and give it the care that it needs, whether it’s extra hydration, soothing, or barrier strengthening. After all, bodycare is skincare too!
Enriched with Shea Butter and Vitamins A, C and E, the Nard Body Lotion wraps you up in a soft hug of rich nourishment and moisture. Its plant oil-infused formula enhances skin elasticity to eliminate any tight, stinging sensations. When it comes to comfortable hydration without stickiness or greasiness, the Shiseido Urea Body Milk is our top pick. The milky texture provides instant relief for rough and textured skin, keeping it supple and smooth. A soothing delight for all the senses, the innisfree Green Tea Pure Body Lotion deeply moisturizes the body through the brand’s own amino acid-filled “Beauty Green Tea”. With this, you can expect velvety skin akin to the fresh Jeju Green Tea leaves it’s formulated with.
7. Create a consistent routine
While skincare products may have instant results in terms of appearance, the skin needs some time to fully reap the benefits of ingredients and formulations. Dermatologists suggest it takes up to 4 weeks to see the full effects of your skincare, as the skin typically goes through a 28-day cycle. After designing a routine that your skin is happy with (products that instantly irritate can be counted out), stick to it for 4 weeks and remain patient as the magic happens.
Known for evening out texture, fading dark spots, and intensely hydrating the skin, the COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence is worth all the hype. This Snail Mucin-based essence sinks into the skin and replenishes lost nutrients. To restore luminosity and bounce, the PURITO Pure Vitamin C Serum combines Vitamin C, Red Ginseng and Hyaluronic Acid to provide skin-loving nourishment. SOME BY MI’s Retinol Intense Reactivating Serum is a newer drop on our radar offering a mild but powerful formula that addresses 4 signs of aging: wrinkles, loss of elasticity, sagging pores, and skin texture. It features Retinol, Retinal, and Bakuchiol for triple efficacy.
